Field-Tested Books

Another cool pairing of travel and books:

The Field-Tested Books project is our version of the Heisenberg principle: reading a certain book in a certain place uniquely affects a person's experience with both. The writing you'll find here is grounded in that idea. You won't find any book reviews here. You'll find reviews of experience.

I think that is so cool. I was reading A Moveable Feast in Fiji, which I thought was fun. I liked that it gave me an erudite feeling while I was lying on the beach (did I use that adjective right?). Actually, I liked being in Fiji and reading about Paris. But then Hemingway said it was interesting how he found it easier to write about Michigan while he was in Paris. I guess there's something about writing and location too. So maybe if I write about Antarctica, I'll forget that it's freaking 113 degrees out here (record high predicted today as well). Oh damn, the antarctic shelf is melting...What if I wrote about Greenland...nope, that's melting too. Good thing there's no Global Warming.

A Moveable Feast in Fiji -- I like it. The whole thing makes me think of Reading Lolita in Tehran. Which, come to think of it, I actually read on a cruise ship on my way to Mexico. Another weird juxtaposition...
